My 5th and final beer from my trade with Joel Bennett of the band Mainsail and it's another solid choice.
The label says "... is a bastardized Scottish style red ale packed with distinctive flavors and an aggressive hop character rivaled by none. This unfiltered, bottle conditioned, amber colored ale breaks all style molds."
It's a dead on description. In fact this "Scottish style red ale" is so bastardized that it is unlikely to ever be identified as such. Big hop character, tasty caramel malt flavors, and a beautiful deep amber color are the main highlights here.
Appearance
Pours a hazy deep amber color with a thin but creamy head, not overly carbonated.
Aroma
I'm a bit stuffy, but it doesn't stop this beer from hitting me with a floral hop punch as I take a whiff.
Flavor
Well balanced hop and malt characters. Neither hits you harder than the other. If I didn't know better, I'd think this to be a Stone beer, as it has that beautiful hop back to it that Stone does so well. Yum-tastic.
Mouthfeel
Full, but dry. Leaves a hoppy aftertaste, but a relatively pleasant one.
In closing, if you can snag a bottle, do it.
