When, if ever, are ice cubes in beer acceptable?

I would not do it but I have heard of some people doing it.

In my opinion I don't think it's acceptable. If I'm in the need of something right now and there is no cold beer, then I'll pour a glass of bourbon or rye. If I can wait a few hours I'll toss it in the freezer and let it chill, but I draw the line at cubes.

Never. It changes the whole drinking experience. It waters down the taste, changes the consistency. No, never. Of course, I've never tried it, but I don't think I ever will.....

PS I worked at an ice company off and on for 10 years, so I am somewhat of an expert when it comes to ice, if that compensates for my lack of beer knowledge.

Well... the consensus here is NEVER.
I cannot say I've never done so, though I certainly frown upon it.
That said, my opinion is it is acceptable, though barely, if the beer is an easy drinking beer that would never in a million years qualify as a "big beer" and it is 85 degrees +. Case in point, if you were to be at the beach and just got in, so the beer was not yet cold... you could throw a cube into your Yuengling Lager or similar beer while awaiting your case to chill.
A friend named Steve posted this on my Facebook in response to the question: "Here's a trick i learned living in florida during the summer. If you have a pitcher of beer, you float a sealed bag of ice on the top. Another trick is using thick frosted glasses, like a heavy mug or the like. The thicker the glass, the longer the coolness lasts. This is especially true of mugs as they have a handle which prevents your hand from warming the glass (and the tasty beverage contained therein. ) As for ice cubes placed directly into the glass; you wont see me doing it"

If my beer was warm, and unopened then I would be forced to try one of my Belgians. You can get away with drinking them warm for the most part.
